READ BETWEEN THE LINES

THIS IS MY STORY, HER STORY, OUR STORY.

Alexandre de Poplavsky's drawing technique consists of a superposition of black lines, playing with the pen's thickness and darkness to create a maze of lines from a very close point of observation. He calls it "the Pattern." Always intrigued by the big questions of life - what are we, where are we coming from, where are we going, why are we on Earth for such a limited amount of time, etc. - he began interviewing his models to compare his thoughts and capture a precise point of view of the world we live in from a specific individual. By inserting their answers into the painting's background, the series "Read between the lines" was born. Alexandre de Poplavsky also referred to this series as "time capsule art" and enjoyed imagining someone, in a thousand years, looking at a portrait of a 20th-century person and reading the interview of someone's life - a story that represents more globally our civilization at a specific time in human history.
